TORONTO, ON – Stephanie Bowman, MPP for Don Valley West has released the following statement in response to the Ministry of Finance’s report on 2023-24 First Quarter Finances:
“This report reiterates the tired message of ‘targeted supports to help people and businesses,’ but this government’s approach continues to miss the mark. Instead of ensuring that our ERs are open, that nurses and education workers are paid fairly for their work, that transit projects are delivered on time and on budget, that people living with addiction and those suffering from the affordability crisis get the help they need, this government is focused on enriching their friends who stand to make $8.3 billion in profits.
“The Minister of Finance’s defence of what the Auditor General called — and the public knows is — an indefensible process of backroom deals with a few select developers, was hard to hear. With these scandalous Greenbelt deals, the government appears to be taking a targeted approach to support a few special businesses — developers who are friends of this current government.
“We need transparent processes that withstand scrutiny and that the public can trust. The Auditor General’s report on the Greenbelt last week makes it abundantly clear that we lack that under this this government. This government must address their indefensible and unethical process by undoing the damage done; they must reverse the decisions made regarding these Greenbelt deals, and demand the resignation of the Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.”
